We Are the Champions....

So what did you do over Memorial Day Weekend?  Did you have a picnic, hang out by the pool, go shopping?  All of those things sound lovely, however, that's not where you would have found me this past weekend.  We packed up the car and headed to a tropical location where the sun was sunny and the wind was windy. Okay...so it wasn't really tropical, but it was sunny and a breeze was blowing!  Shawn was asked to play in a baseball tournament.  This was quite an honor, since it was a hand picked team.  The weather cooperated and even though it was hot, there was a breeze, lots of shade and an ice cream truck - what more could you ask for?

The boys were excited about staying in a hotel with a pool.  They played, laughed and ate pizza.  It was good for them to hang out together off of the baseball field.  They all got along so well.

But they knew they needed to continue to play hard...on the field.  They wanted to compete and they had the opportunity.  After "pool play" (and I don't mean swimming pool)  we were ranked 3rd seed.  It was a single elimination tournament, which meant they couldn't afford to lose.  And man did they bring it!  Game after game after game!  They played as a team, which is what Little League is all about.  They were having fun and winning along the way.

Shawn had a great weekend, crushing the ball to center field almost every time he was up to bat.  These hits, along with the efforts of all the the boys, brought the boys to the championship game.  We were all thrilled for our boys.  They had worked hard and played their hearts out.  They deserved to make it this far and I was happy with that.  In 95 degree heat, the boys had already played  two tremendous games. We couldn't ask too much more from them.  Besides, the team they were going to play had been on fire all day.  BUT the other team was also a team that we beat during pool play.  So was there a little HOPE???  Perhaps...but how disappointing it would be if they got their hopes up and then lost.  Shouldn't they just be happy they made it this far?  I hate to say it, but that's exactly how I felt.  Could they bring the heat just one more time?  After all, it was already 8:30pm.

Let me just tell you...they came out stronger than ever!  They pitched, they hit, they fielded like their little league lives depended on it...And in 3 1/2 innings won the championship game 11-1!  How cool is that!

Most look up and admire the stars.  A champion climbs a mountain and grabs one!

Way to go boys!  We are proud of you!

Oh Yeah...since we were in a hotel, we needed a dog sitter for Dakota.  You can read about his grand adventures here
